Janesville Water and Wastewater Utilities
Contrary to belief, we do not use surface water from the Rock River. The Janesville Water Utility draws water from seven wells, which have a total capacity of up to 29 million gallons per day. The Water Utility maintains a distribution system of over 367 miles of water main pipes. Annually, the utility crew fixes about 90 water main breaks (caused primarily from our cold Wisconsin winters), repairs about 125 service leaks, and operates half of the 2,964 system valves. They also flush each of the 2,561 fire hydrants every year. The Wastewater Utility maintains a sewer collection system 300 miles in length that collects and conveys sewage to the treatment facility (long enough to reach from Janesville to St. Paul, Minnesota). You may find current utility rates here.
